Prof. Dr. Thorsten Neumann Complements Panthera Team

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Thorsten Neumann is joining forces with the Panthera Solutions team cooperating on joint research and client mandates as well as Panthera’s training offerings. Thorsten complements our expertise as a Quantitative Asset & Risk Management Specialist with a strong scientific background.

Thorsten is a tenured Professor at University of Applied Sciences in Neu-Ulm since 2019. His excellent corporate track record was built over 18 years in leading managing roles at Deka Investment and Union Investment. He successfully served in the investment committee of Union Investment, being responsible for EUR 270 Bn in AuM, for many years. As a Managing Director of Quant and Risk Management he strengthened Union’s quant capabilities, investment processes and product innovations with his team. Prior to this role, Thorsten was with Deka Investment as Head of Investment Process Consulting and with DZ Bank as a quant analyst for fixed income.

Thorsten has a broad expertise on both, fundamental and quant management of equities, fixed income and multi asset portfolios. His particular focus is on investment processes, econometric modelling, investor sentiment and portfolio construction. Within the scope of his expertise, he worked with a large number of portfolio managers on alpha generation and their risk management approaches.

Thorsten is a widely recognized speaker and panellist at conferences and seminars within both, the scientific community and the asset management industry. He holds a Diploma in Quantitative Economics and a Doctoral Degree in Statistics from Christian-Albrecht’s-University at Kiel.

Prof. Dr. Thorsten Neumann:

“I love teaching and contributing to innovative work. Understanding and modelling how economies, markets and investors behave on the one hand, and building investment processes with people in order to exploit this understanding on the other hand, are the drivers of my work.

I am looking forward to joint work with Panthera’s cutting-edge team on innovative research and educational offerings but also to share minds with clients on how to make their investment processes capable of future challenges.”

Mag. Dr. Markus Schuller, MBA, MScFE:

“With his strong scientific background and a first-class track record of industry experience Thorsten further strengthens the private practice setting of Panthera specialists. Our industry is challenged by finding a competitive equilibrium between human intelligence and artificial intelligence in an ethical and sustainable way.

Thorsten is a prototypical fit for contributing to the search for this balance. It requires an meticulous approach to academic developments, the practical experience how to deploy those when dealing with market complexity and the caring eye of an educator to guide market participants on their learning paths when stepping up to that complexity.

I personally look forward to working with Thorsten on contributing to the calibration of this equilibrium.”
